Rick Saccone welcomed Scout Troup #1843 from Jefferson Hills to the Capitol on March 18. On Feb. 23, Rep. Saccone visited the U.S. Naval Operational Support Center (NOSC) to recognize the Pittsburgh Battalion Sea Cadet Corps members who have achieved special recognition through their Commanding Officer Lt. Guy Mignogna II USNSCC. Rep. Saccone’s first-ever Round Table Discussion, held on Feb. 15  at Butler's Rock Run Inn, was very successful and informative.   Topics of discussion included Property Tax Assessment, Gun Rights, Liquor Store Privatization and Pension Reform.   District 39 residents who would like to be a part of the next Round Table Discussion, scheduled for Friday evening March 22 at the Blue Flame Restaurant in Jefferson Hills, are encouraged to call the district office at (412) 653-1025 for more specifics and to sign up. Representative Saccone recently visited with Ambassador Son Se-joo and other members from the Republic of South Korea delegation on the Pennsylvania House floor. Sponsored by US Steel on Jan. 18, Rep. Saccone hosted his Second Annual Emergency Responders Recognition Dinner. Each award recipient was nominated by their individual departments for being Officer, Firefighter or Paramedic of the Year. Rep. Saccone thanks each and every District 39 first responder for their dedication to keeping their communities safe. Representative Saccone had the privilege of presenting Christopher Bredel, Pleasant Hills Troop 231, with an official House citation for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout during his Court of Honor ceremony. Christopher is the son of Ronald and Ellen Bredel of Jefferson Hills. On New Year’s Day 2013, Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) officially took the oath of office to represent the people of the 39th District for his second term in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The state Constitution requires members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives be sworn in for the new session on the first Tuesday in January, which this year fell on New Year's Day. On Monday, Dec. 10, Rep. Saccone and his wife, district office staff and several local residents went room to room at Mt. Vernon Senior Living in Elizabeth Twp. singing traditional Christmas songs while distributing care packages and holiday treats. In recognition for his strong support of key pro-business legislation during the 2011-12 Legislative Session, Rep. Saccone received his first “Guardian of Small Business” Award from Pennsylvania National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) State Director Kevin Shivers. On Oct. 31, Rep. Saccone joined with the children, parents and staff for the annual Tender Care Learning Center(Jefferson Hills) fall costume celebration. One extra special and extremely well dressed guest at Rep. Saccone's Fall 2012 Senior Expo was Anastasia. Anastasia is a hospice/therapy dog through Three Rivers Hospice and Palliative Care in Pittsburgh. In addition to having her picture taken with him for the organization's upcoming calendar, Anastasia also sang (barked) Happy Birthday for one local senior citizen. Rep. Saccone expressed his gratitude to Pastor Tim Burgan (Center), Christian Center Church located in Belle Vernon, for serving as guest chaplain and delivering the opening prayer on the state House floor on Oct. 15. The 60 District 39 residents who participated Rep. Saccone's Fall 2012 Religious Liberties bus tour, on Monday, Oct. 15, were also officially recognized on the floor of the Pennsylvania House. On Sept. 25, Rep. Saccone and the Shriners participated in the South Park Community Days Parade. Representative Saccone recently visited Mt. Vernon Assistant Living Residence of South Park Nursing Home to present Ms. Margaret Tignanelli with flowers and an official House citation in celebration of her 103rd Birthday. On Sept. 6, Rep. Saccone participated in a House Republican Policy Committee hearing, held at Saint Vincent College, focusing on the tremendous impact of coal for Pennsylvania's economy. According to statistics offered at the hearing, approximately 45,000 Pennsylvanians are directly or indirectly employed by the coal industry. Many of those jobs are being endangered by excessive and overzealous federal environmental regulations. On Aug. 25, Representative Saccone was privileged and honored to host a family picnic for more than 100 local veterans at Clairton Sportsmen's Club. Featured speakers included Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley and Major General Randall R. Marchi, Commander, 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Patriotic music was performed by Samantha Middlemiss, Olivia Mills and Ira Seybold. Rep. Saccone visited with Kurt J. Lesker III, President Charles DeVentura, VP, John Lubic, VP and Kristin Lesker Eisel, HR Manager during his recent tour of Kurt J. Lesker Company. Located in Clairton, Kurt J. Lesker Company is a global provider of high-quality vacuum products and systems. Among those joining Representative Saccone at Jefferson Regional Medical Center's annual Community Recognition Night (from left) included: Richard Collins Jr., MD, executive vice president and chief medical officer; Marv Levin, president, Community Health Council; Dan Onorato, executive vice president, chief external affairs and communication officer, Highmark; Jim Cooper, senior executive vice president; John Dempster, president and CEO and Charles Modispacher, chairperson, board of directors. On Aug. 13, Rep. Saccone presented a talk regarding his stay in North Korea at South Park Library. As a member of the PA House Coal Caucus, Rep. Saccone had the opportunity to "test drive" a coal mining machine while touring a long wall mining operation located in Waynesburg, Greene County. The number of jobs the coal industry creates for Pennsylvania is tremendous and the economic spillover of coal related jobs and products is staggering. In fact, Greene County produces the 2nd largest amount of coal in the United States. As a member of the PA House Coal Caucus, Rep. On July 9 Representative Saccone presented Frances Flowers of New Eagle Pa with an official House citation in celebration of her 100th Birthday. Representative Saccone was honored to participate in the 125th anniversary celebration of the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children. This Blue Ribbon school is a precious western Pennsylvania resource that educates not only blind children but those afflicted with additional severe disabilities and the medically fragile. On the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, Representative Saccone thanked several Pennsylvania World War II veterans who survived this infamous attack for their service. In response to the recent allegations of child sex abuse at Penn State University, as a member of the House Children and Youth Committee I am working to advance legislation to create stronger laws to protect potential child abuse victims. House Bill 544 would create an office of children’s ombudsman in the Commonwealth. The office would be under the supervision of the attorney general to receive, process and investigate complaints related to child abuse, to pursue legislative activity in the best interests of children and to identify and make appropriate recommendations to the governor, General Assembly and state Supreme Court with regard to child welfare issues. Representative Saccone takes a safety inspection tour of Pennsylvania-American Water Company's District 39 plant. Representative Saccone had the privilege of attending and speaking at Washington & Jefferson College's 9-11 candlelight vigil. May we always remember and reflect upon the sacrifices made by so many American patriots on that fateful day. Representative Saccone recently visited the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center to discuss some of the latest issues in the highly competitive world of supercomputing. Representative Saccone recently attended and spoke at the Hapikido Global Conference, hosted by the American Judo-Hapkido Institute, which has locations in Waynesburg and Clairton. Representative Saccone joins members of Firearms Owners Against Crime for Governor Tom Corbett's official bill signing of House Bill 40. House Bill 40 makes Pennsylvania the 24th state in the nation to adopt the Castle Doctrine to fully restore the legal ability of law abiding citizens to use lethal force in self defense against violent criminals. Representative Saccone recently hosted a Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee hearing focusing on Marcellus Shale economic and health issues at the South Park Municipal Building.
