Saccone to Co-Chair House Judiciary Hearing on Legislation to Streamline Capture of Internet Child Sex Predators
WHAT: State Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) will co-chair a House Judiciary Committee public hearing focusing on his legislation to allow the Office of Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) to more rapidly investigate and apprehend Internet child sex predators. Specifically, House Bill 2590 would give the attorney general’s office, county district attorneys, or their designated deputies the authority to issue an administrative subpoena to an Internet service provider in order to obtain the originating computer “IP address” or any subscriber information relevant to an investigation of online child pornography distribution, sexual exploitation and/or abuse. This will expedite the investigation of alleged Internet child sex predators and prevent them from hiding in cyber anonymity.
WHO: Saccone; Majority Chairman Ron Marsico (R-Dauphin); and other members of the Judiciary Committee. Those expected to offer testimony will include: Cumberland County District Attorney Dave Freed; Assistant District Attorney Sheldon Kovach, Delaware County ICAC; Professor George H. Pike, director, Barco Law Library,University of Pittsburgh School of Law; and several others.
