Stolen Valor Bill Advances, Says Saccone
HARRISBURG — A bill introduced by Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) which would protect the valor and integrity of America’s veterans this week advanced out of the House Judiciary Committee.

House Bill 2050 would make it a crime to fraudulently present oneself as a soldier or a veteran of any branch of the armed forces, or to be the recipient of a service medal or other military decoration when it is done with the intention of obtaining money, property or other benefits.

“The act of obtaining an economic benefit by posing as a veteran is truly despicable and should be punished as such. Our service members deserve the utmost honor and respect, and criminals who deceitfully masquerade as veterans degrade our true American heroes,” said Saccone.

The bill is now in the House Rules Committee.
