Saccone Bill to Bestow New Honors Passes House
HARRISBURG—Legislation introduced by Rep. Rick Saccone (R- Allegheny/Washington) that would add two new decorations to the list of existing medals, badges and awards conferred by the Commonwealth for heroic civilian and military service passed the Pennsylvania House on Tuesday.

“You can date back to the American Revolution, and you’ll find no shortage of Pennsylvanians willing to put their country before themselves, exhibiting tremendous courage and valor,” Saccone said.

The two new decorations are the Pennsylvania Medal of Achievement and the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award. The Pennsylvania Medal of Achievement would be ranked fifth, under the Pennsylvania Commendation Medal, and the Pennsylvania Veterans Service Award would be ranked 13th, under the Pennsylvania Outstanding Aeronautical Achievement Award.

Saccone’s legislation, House Bill 165, would authorize the two new decorations which would be presented by the governor.

“Creating these new medals, the governor will have the ability to further recognize outstanding service by our beloved military members and civilians,” said Saccone. “This bill is to remember their selfless sacrifices, all for the good of our country, and their commitment to protecting the freedom shared by our Commonwealth.”

The legislation now advances to the Senate. For more information, please visit or
