Saccone Announces Grant for Elizabeth Borough
HARRISBURG – Rep. Rick Saccone (R-Allegheny/Washington) announced the approval of a $167,000 Allegheny County Gaming Economic Development Fund Grant (GEDF) to assist the improvement of Riverfront Park in Elizabeth Borough.

Saccone secured the grant to replace sidewalks and lookouts that were built in 1985. Also, the funding will be used for signage, lighting and handrails overlooking the river. The goal is to connect the sidewalks on Plum and Market streets into Riverfront Park.

“Maintaining our infrastructure is vital for a strong community,” said Saccone. “This grant will go a long way to help improve the safety of the citizens living in and visiting Elizabeth. Beautification is very important because the physical look and quality of amenities in a town reflect a community’s pride and commitment to each other. I am so happy I was able to help the Borough improve its infrastructure. Plum Street and the Riverfront are attractions that draw people from all over the region. It will now be able to improve a little more.”

Riverfront Park is located at 100-210 South Water St. in Elizabeth.

The GEDF program was established by Act 71 of 2004. The grant program was scheduled to end in 2019. However, language was added to Act 42 of 2017 to extend these vital community improvement programs for an additional 10 years starting in Fiscal Year 2019-20. The GEDF program is funded through gaming revenues and does not use General Fund taxpayer dollars.
